According to our research, zombies can not smell. And even if they could, their own fetid stench would mask anything else around them; including humans.

It’s pretty easy to hit a zombie (if you’re thinking about something like the walking dead) so just narratively say a miss hit them in the arm/torso and a hit is a headshot. Just use AC. A miss is when they hit anything but the head, and a hit is a hit to the head.
